My sister and brother-in-law welcomed their beautiful identical twin girls just over a week ago! These little ones were high-risk from day one, causing my sister-in-law to spend the last eight weeks of her pregnancy closely monitored at Presbyterian Hospital. She was carrying Monoamniotic Monochorionic twins-a rare type of identical twins. Doctors were hopeful but straightforward when informing them about the high mortality associated with the pregnancy. They were told that between weeks 22-23 the survival rate for these tiny ones was only about 15%. Still, we trusted the Lord. We trusted that He would do everything according to His good purpose. After much waiting and praying for these two little ones to join our world, the Lord answered our prayers and they are now here, healthy and doing great at the hospital's NICU. Praise God for His mercy! In the third picture down you will bare witness to their first conversation. Congrats David and Amy!

Do You Rest?

Do you understand the Bible’s concept of “rest”?

No not at all.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” –Mathew 11;28

Rest from what?

He said this to a group of people who new the Old Testament really well but they misunderstood why God gave the Law. Do you remember why He gave the Law?

So we have a standard.

“Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by the works of the law no human being will be justified in His sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.- Romans 3;19-20
God gave the Law to make us aware of our sin. The Law is accusing because it’s perfect and therefore unattainable for us. These people thought that if they did works they would be justified (made righteous) by God. As you can imagine they were constantly doing the works of the Law to try to satisfy God. There souls had no rest because they were constantly trying to satisfy God by obedience but there obedience was not perfect and not with good motives which God’s Law demands!

So then what did they need?

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteous of God through faith is Jesus Christ for all who believe.
The Law made them weary from constantly trying to perfectly obey. Jesus Christ died for (in place of) the ungodly, paying their sin debt and giving them perfect righteousness.

So then that means that if you sin you have faith that God forgives you?

The death of Jesus on the cross literally paid the debt of sin of those who did, are, and will believe in Him. He ransomed the elect of God. You said that you were guilty. A good guilt is one caused because we know that we have sinned against God and are deserving of punishment. If you trust in what Christ did on the cross that guilt should turn to peace.

Even when you keep sinning?

Yes, because we keep trusting in Jesus. The difference between prior to and after someone has been born again is that they have a decreased appetite for sin, a love for Christ, a love for other Christians so much that they actively fight sin. We may fall but we have that same good guilt. We trust that Christ paid even for the sin we’ve just committed and then, out of love for God, we press on and fight sin until we see Christ in person.

That makes sense.

So what does it mean to “rest”?

To rest from sin and guilt because Jesus takes that away.

Pretty much. To rest in Jesus’ finished work on the cross for us on our behalf. Rest from trying to get right with God by our own works which brings failure and associated sin and guilt.

That makes sense.

Do you have a good guilt? Are you resting?

I think so

Do you want to follow Christ, no matter what the cost? Does the Cross of Christ appeal to you that much?

Yes and I do want to follow God.

Then thank Him. To the elect He gives the gift of faith. Boast in God the father’s election, boast in what Jesus has done on the cross, and boast in the Holy Spirit giving you understanding and giving you a godly guilt.

What do you mean by boast?

Well, the bible says that we as humans have the tendency to take the credit and boast of what God has done. The bible says that every good thing is from God. If God has truly changed your desires to follow Him, then He did it and that should lead to worship (boasting).

Woke-up thinking about the hymn, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" and the verse that repeatedly played in my head was the part where it says, "Prone to wonder, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above." I know that while I live in this fallen world, my sinful heart will continuously be prone to wander and seek for other things instead of following the command to, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30). And though at times this can be very discouraging, I thank the Lord for giving me, his daughter, the promise that He who began this good work in me, will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Thank God it is He who works in me to perfect me for the day when freed from sinning, I shall see His lovely face!

Delicious Homemade Biscotti!

I've been on a kick for Biscotti lately. I've made about eight batches in the past two months! That's what happens when you're a stay-at-home mom. Lots of time to bake! Biscotti sounds complicated but its rather easy, just a little time consuming. The CookSmart recipe called them, "Great Guilt-Free Cookies" claiming each biscotti piece has only 43 calories (6g carbohydrates, 1g protein, 2g fat (0g saturated), 8mg cholesterol, 18mg sodium). I always eat three or four pieces at once which ends up being not so healthy, but I still like the idea of a "healthy" in my cookie. :) I am more than happy to share the recipe with you, just don't blame me for the addiction that follows!

First time I made Biscotti I followed the recipe to a "T". I have since made a few modifications to my liking. I only add 1 Tbs. of the almond liqueur called for, I use 2 cups of sliced almonds, not whole, and I divide the dough into four sections instead of two. Give it a try and see what you like best!

Did I forget to mention I add a little vanilla flavored candy melts on top??
Make that 50 calories per cookie! lol.

Alexis turns three November 25th!! I am so blessed to have this sweet girl around. I decided to celebrate this special occasion by having a tea party with some of her closest friends. We had a wonderful time sipping on tea and chatting away with one another. Alexis enjoyed every minute of it! She had about five cups of tea. Her last cup of the night was prepared by yours truly-cozy chamomile. She slept like an angel. ;)

A little field trip

For all THREE of them!

Alexis refuses to leave "Tobe" behind. And this time, since she knew the Aquarium and Botanic Garden required a lot of walking, she wanted to bring her stroller as well. I didn't want to pass an opportunity to teach her a little bit about being responsible, but I also knew that bringing a doll and an extra stroller on top of everything else could go two ways, REALLY good or REALLY bad. As I stuffed my trunk with a doll and an extra stroller I thought to myself, "Are you serious?? She will soon get tired and have YOU hauling not only YOUR stroller and taking care of YOUR KIDS, but add to that HER doll and HER stroller!!" Reluctantly I decided to give it a try and prayed I wouldn't look like a crazy woman in a public place. I started the car and remembered just how could I go on this adventure without a camera!! Ran in and grabbed my (thanks to all of you) new Nikon to have a record of our trip.
Here are a few pictures of our little field trip.
Our trip ended up being a success! I was extremely impressed with Alexis and the way she responsibly cared for Tobe. She pushed her stroller the entire time we were there and even went the extra mile to explain to Aaron and Tobe what it was they were looking at.

Teaching Young Girls...

Over a cup of tea! A dear friend of ours hosted a tea party for some of the young ladies from our church. We spent an amazing time, laughing and talking about scriptures that pertain to women, their roles, and their worth as scriptures teaches. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, teaching, and reminding one another about what is truly precious and pleasing in the sight of God. A perfect opportunity to teach the young girls about mannerism and being a lady. Love it!
I plan to have a tea party for Alexis' third birthday and was waiting to expose her to the sweetness of tea then, but felt this was an invite we could not decline. I am so glad we took part in it. Not only did Alexis enjoy spending time with friends, she absolutely LOVED sipping tea (MANY cups of tea), she also enjoyed eating delicious finger food prepared for us!

Garden News!

Raspberries!! We absolutely LOVE our latest crop! Kris planted raspberries earlier this year and didn't expect for any of them to bear fruit for another year or two. Today, Alexis walked over to one of our small plants and yelled, "Mama, they're ready!" She was so excited to have "ready red" raspberries to eat....and so was I! Thanks to the "R clan" from church for kindly sharing ten of their raspberry plants with us!!

The Lord has granted me twenty-six years of life today. I am so thankful for everything He has done for me and in me. The blessings He has bestowed upon me throughout the years have been immeasurable. As everything goes on as usual today and nothing seems out of the ordinary (and I don't feel any older, or younger!), I realize that twenty-six years ago today, God ordained for me to be born. He has sustained me from my mother's womb, to my first breath, to my twenty-six years of life. I am in awe of my creator and thank Him for giving me life on this earth and thank Him all the more for giving me everlasting life. This day I pray He continues to guide, sustain, sanctify and mold me to the image of His son, Jesus Christ.

Mud, Tadpoles and Frogs

She asks her dad, "Can we go see tadpoles?" Kris always says yes, of course. There's a small area by our house that fills up with water when it rains. The lingering stagnant water makes it a perfect environment for tadpoles (and bacteria) and frogs ( and bacteria) to thrive in. I don't usually go with them to "see" the tadpoles and just recently found out that going to "see" the frogs and tadpoles also meant putting their hands in the water, holding and touching their slimy skin...yuck! I guess I'll have to get used to the fact that she loves to go see and pick up the tadpoles and frogs that hang out there. At least she's wearing a pink necklace!

Alexis has asked me several times if she can go to school. While we are not 100% sure on where she will go, we are 100% sure that most of her learning will take place here at home. I have designated a small corner of the house as "school" to start teaching her basics skills she will need to learn how to read, write and begin math. I find it doesn't take much time out of my day and it satisfies her desire to go to school. It is a win-win! Here are some pictures of our little school corner.

Albuquerque Ambulance responds to a stabbing in Albuquerque's war zone. Paramedic Kris Ramos attends the patient while Albuquerque Police Officer Kacy Ramos obtains critical information from the patient on the alleged assailant. This is a common occurrence....we're called twins! Pretty cool! I'm proud to work side-by-side with my brother. When I arrive on even the worst of scenes I cannot help but smile while remembering Kacy playing "Police and Robbers" as a kid. We always initiated the game by saying, "We have a 911 call." Don't taze me bro!

Monkey Aaron!

It took me a while to get used to the fact that I have a MAJOR climber in the house. Actually, I'm still struggling with the fact because I'm afraid to take my eyes off of him for a second! Crawled at six months, walked at nine, and started to climb at eleven months! This kid is crazy!
I know as mothers we have a tough job and responsibility when it comes to raising kids, we try to do everything in our power to protect them from harm. I try, trust me. But at this point, I feel helpless in the area of trying to keep Aaron's feet on the ground. I thank God that He watches over him a lot better than I do. Thank you Lord for no trips to the ER (so far!).

This is a kitchen stool, not a regular size chair.

I can't imagine what it would be like not to be married to my friend, my very best friend. You are someone whom I desire to be with, laugh with, cry with, play with, grow old with, dream with, and pray with. Thank you for always being there for me. THE HOPE OF SALVATION

How I needed to hear this today. If you are a mother, I pray you are encouraged in your high calling of motherhood. For those of you who are not mothers yet, I pray this will change your perspective on childbearing.

"A promise is given from the Most High: 'But women will be saved' (v.15). This is not a text on remission of sins but deliverance out of sin related suffering and oppression. Woman will triumph over and emerge from the misery and curse under which she is held by the forces of evil.
But how are women saved?...Her pathway to real salvation was appointed by the Almighty. It is motherhood. 'She shall be saved through childbirth" (v. 15). The first gospel promise was given before any curse was pronounced on man or woman. And the promise wonderfully involved the means of motherhood. 'I will put enmity between you [the serpent] and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel' [Gen 3.5].
...'I will' is the message of grace. One means was mentioned as the instrumental course of salvation from the devil's crutches. It was childbearing!
Deliverance comes, not through man's vocational efforts in the cultural mandate, but through woman's childbearing. How wrong women are when they imagine that their hope lies in imitating men's careers. As they abandon motherhood for the office and factory, they despise God's carefully designed means of breaking the devil's yoke and fleeing the miseries he has inflicted.
It is to woman, not man, that God assigned this high calling. But her hope is not identified with her political savvy, her business acumen, or her social activism. It is childbearing! Women today are so eager to abandon 'mere' motherhood to duplicate male labours. How tragic, when the hope God has given for woman and for all of our race is tied to childbearing! Of course the central attention of Genesis 3.15 is upon one seed of the woman, Jesus Christ. He who was born of the Jewess, Mary, delivered the decisive death blow to the head of the serpent on Calvary. He purchased salvation for all who are redeemed.
Yet, even before Christ came, a godly seed of the woman was set against Satanic forces. Childbearing prepared the way of the Lord. When about to raise up mighty leaders, Jehovah often sought out peculiarly able women. Jochebed, the mother of Moses; Hannah, the mother of Samuel; Manoah's wife, the mother of Samson, are leading examples. Through their childbearing the course of history was wonderfully altered. Since Christ has come, a godly seed carries the gospel to all the earth to gather God's elect and hasten Christ's return. Raising a godly seed is still of the profoundest importance of the cause of God in the earth...
Nothing crushes the cause of sin like godly childbearing."

I absolutely love, love, love my kiddos! I never would have thought motherhood would be this fun. Challenging? Tiresome? Of course, what isn't. I wouldn't trade a single day of having them around for anything else in the world. It's sad to know and see so many people choosing other things rather than having children. No amount of money or success can bring the joy kids do, sorry. All I can say is, "You're missing out!"

I enjoy watching them play and interact with each other. Aaron is sixteen months younger than Alexis but he is VERY good at keeping up with her. They entertain each other and keep each other busy while I get things done around the house.

The garden is really coming along! We eat fresh Swiss chard and spinach daily. This week we planted six tomato plants, nine raspberry roots, and six fruit trees. By the way, I can no longer be considered organic. Pesticide-free but an inline fertilizer for the drip irrigation is too effective.

I joined a co-ed soccer league this spring season. I haven't played in a loooong time and decided to give it a try with my good neighbor/friend, "E". It's been good, the only difference between E and I is that she received an athletic scholarship to play soccer and has been part of this team for six years! (I know, she's a tough cookie). I, on the on the other hand, have not played since high school-nearly nine years!! I figured if I don't do anything out there, I WILL get in shape! Pray I don't brake a leg, or anything along those lines. ;)

When disciplining a child (which should be for the purpose of godliness) the parent must have Biblical authority to do so. To lack Biblical authority is to put the parent's will in opposition to the child's will. When a parent's discipline is motivated by the authority of the Bible it puts God's will in opposition to the child's will. When a parent does this he or she truly puts into practice the example of Jesus, "Not my will but thine be done".

Our garden is progressing despite our lack of experience. One benefit of living in Los Lunas is the Christian brothers and sisters who have a vast amount of farming experience and are also generous. These people need to be taught the attributes of God. For He is both Just and the Justifier. He will graciously forgive and justify sinners who call upon His name, give attention to His word and turn from their wicked ways OR as a just judge, He will judge the world with justice.

The Begginning Of Something New!

Our very own garden!! We had been talking about planting a garden in our backyard, but had been busy until now. Two weeks ago we (because we ARE one flesh) have just planted a variety of crops such as; spinach, swiss chard, peas, carrots, lettuce and onions. We are SO excited to see what comes up and out of our own little garden. Ok fine, all the gardening and hard work credit goes to my hard-working husband, but I AM planning to help pick out and cook the produce when its ready...so give me some credit.
It's so amazing how even in the smallest of things like planting a garden we are reminded of God's hand and provision over everything! We MUST give credit to God for whatever comes up of the ground. Yes, Kris is still responsible for planting and watering but ultimately we can not cause those little seeds to sprout, only God can. And so I say, I am so happy to serve a Creator who has His hand over all, even the things we don't give much thought to!

Aaron turns one April 04, 2011. We are planning a birthday party for him at a local park and I've decided to make the pinata myself. I've never made a pinata before but thought I would try it anyway. I'll keep you pinata posted all the way until my hard work is hanging by a rope being destroyed by little hands. This is what the pinata currently looks like. It will eventually and hopefully look like a baseball.

I had the opportunity to take Aaron and Alexis to the zoo this morning. Alexis loves going there and Aaron is beginning to experience the same passion. I took advantage of the trip to teach Alexis about the uniqueness of the animals there, but most importantly teach her about the uniqueness of our creator.

Today we took little Lex to Mop Tops for her very first hair cut. She was a little frightened at first but a strawberry Dum-Dum and Tom & Jerry made her feel a little better!

The lady that cut her hair was very nice and before we left she gave us a tiny Ziploc with her first curl. I will be putting it in her little pink keepsake box.

Kris was sure he could cut her hair but we decided to leave it to the professionals instead!

Kale with Ham, Garlic & Onion

A tasty way to eat your leafy greens. I will be sharing with friends and family (and any other random stranger that pops in) some of the new and favorite dishes that come from my kitchen. Hope you're able to copy, modify to your taste and enjoy them as much as I do!

Ingredients:
3 pounds kale (I also added fresh broccoli)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 tablespoons of unsalted salt
One 6 ounce slice smoked ham, cut into 1/4-inch dice (about 1 cup)
1 1/2 cups thinly sliced yellow onion
5 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups low-salt chicken or vegetable broth
Red-wine vinegar (optional)

Remove the tough stems from the kale leaves by slicing a narrow "V" up into each leaf to remove the entire stem. Wash in cold water and drain.
Fill a pot with 2inches of water and bring it to a boil. Add a good pinch of salt as well as the kale. Cover with the lid slightly askew and cook on high heat, turning occasionally until tender, about 20 min. Drain and chop kale into small pieces.
Melt 3 tablespoons of the butter in pot over med-high heat. Add ham and cook until it starts to brown a little. Reduce heat to medium. Add the onion, garlic and a pinch of salt; cook covered, stirring occasionally, until softened. If onion or garlic start to brown, lower the heat. Add the broth, bring to boil, reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer fro about 5 min. Return the kale to the pot, stir in the remaining butter, season with pepper, and cook gently until the flavors are well blended. Taste ans adjust the seasonings as necessary.

Oh, how I want to be the mother God calls me to be. I pray the Lord will guide me in training my children with His wisdom and not my own. To be diligent in discipline and not selfish or lazy.

Kids Update

Lets start with Alexis. Alexis is talking up a storm and loves to sing, she will often repeat the lyrics she hears. She is a few days shy of her 2nd birthday, yup she will turn two this Thanksgiving day and I could not have something better to be thankful for. She's still going strong on the potty training, I wouldn't call it "training" anymore, she's all on her own. She has perfected the "holding" skill and lets us know when she needs to go wherever we are (soooooooooooo nice.) She has also perfected the "throwing herself on the floor" skill (not sooooooo nice) but we are patiently and diligently working through it. Overall she is very obedient and very pleasant to be around.

Then there's little Aaron, a.k.a. "Buddy". He is such a happy baby, always smiling and laughing. He's soooo ticklish, anywhere you tickle him he'll burst out laughing. He is such a joy to be around. He started crawling one week before he turned six months and is now (at seven months) standing on everything and even taking steps with Alexis' tricycle. His doctor predicted he would be walking by the time he's nine months! I predict he will be wrong, or at least that's what I'm hoping for. I might have to send Mr. Udo a thank you note. Lol!

Not really, just to the Rio Grande. We had fun at the river having a picnic (thank you Taco Bell for providing the meal lol!) and watching how much of a girlie girl our daughter is. She refused to get out of the car without her sunglasses, hat, and doll. Aaron had fun eating an apple (speckled with dirt) the whole time. I really enjoyed the beautiful afternoon watching Kris and Alexis play in the water.

Pork Chops w/ Pear-Ginger Chutney

This chutney is easy to make and will keep for a couple weeks in the refrigerator, or freeze it for longer storage. It goes well with poultry as well as pork. I'm going to have it as a side for the ham on Thanksgiving!

Ingredients:

3 ripe Bosc pears
1 med. yellow onion
1/3 cup raisins or cranberries
3 tablespoons peeled and minced ginger
1 cup light brown sugar
1 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 boneless canter-cut pork loin chops
1 Tablespoon olive oil
3 Tablespoons chopped cilantro

In a large saucepan, combine the pears, onion, raisins, ginger, brown sugar, vinegar, 3 tablespoons of butter, the cayenne and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to maintain a lively simmer, and cook until the solids are very tender and the liquid reduces to a juicy, syrupy glaze, 20 to 25 min.
When the chutney has been simmering for about 15min, season the chops w/ salt and pepper. Cook the chops to taste with the remaining butter and olive oil.
Stir the cilantro into the chutney and season to taste with salt. serve the chops with the chutney.

I really REALLY (really) like being a mama. Raising kids is hard work, for sure. So hard some days I feel like I’m going to collapse, either physically or emotionally (or sometimes both.) But by God’s grace, the joy/fun/love/good stuff always outweighs the hard stuff. The rewards are awesome, and so are these kiddos.

Lately I’ve been reading Matthew Henry’s commentary (it’s all available online) along with my Bible reading. His commentary was originally published in the early 1700′s, but the timeliness of his words is incredible.

Psalm 127 (“3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”) was part of my reading a few nights ago, and I LOVE what Henry says about families:

"Children are a heritage for the Lord, as well as from him; they are my children (says God) which thou hast borne unto me; and they are most our honour and comfort when they are accounted to him for a generation…

They are a good gift, and a great support and defence to a family: As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, who knows how to use them for his own safety and advantage, so are children of the youth, that is, children born to their parents when they are young…and are grown up to serve them by the time they need their service.

The family that has a large stock of children is like a quiver full of arrows, of different sizes we may suppose, but all of use one time or other; children of different capacities and inclinations may be several ways serviceable to the family.

And my favorite part:

Children are a heritage, and a reward, and are so to be accounted, blessings and not burdens; for he that sends mouths will send meat if we trust in him."

Let me say that again: Children are to be accounted blessings and not burdens, for He that sends mouths will send meat if we trust Him!

I sometimes think about our decision to have several children and wonder: are we being unwise financially by choosing to fill our home with little people? How will we afford to feed them, clothe them, diaper them, educate them? But if God means what He says (and I’m pretty sure He does!) then He will take care of the blessings He gives us.

Children are not another item on the list of ‘financial decisions.’ Children are blessings, gifts, whether they are “planned” or not, whether they are easy or difficult, whether they are quiet or outspoken, whether they are sick or healthy, whether they eat like birds or like horses! (So far we have three horses from what I can tell.)

For my 25th birthday Kris and I decided we needed to spend some quality one-on-one time. We decided to take a small two day mini-vacation to beautiful Ruidoso.
My mother-in-law kindly offered to take care of our kids while we celebrated my birthday but most importantly our relationship. Our beautiful kids tend to take a lot of our time making it difficult for us to spend alone time with each other. We definitely missed our kids but I had so much fun with Kris I would do it again in a heart beat!!

Alexis is 100% potty trained! How did I do it?
I can't say I used ALL the advice given because THERE WAS NONE! lol. I honestly didn't have a clear plan on how I was going to tackle potty training, I just kinda went with the flow. We started training at home and slowly transitioned to "the outside world" :) I essentially used many reminders and the help of a cheap little travel size potty from wal-mart (which I truly recommend for potty training bc it works great on reg. size toilets and folds perfectly to fit in a diaper bag).
I can't take all the credit, actually, most of it goes to little miss Alexis. She showed signs of being capable and ready to go on her own and caught on very quickly to my instruction. Great job baby girl, momma is VERY proud of you! I LOVE YOU!

One of the first things I thought after Aaron arrived was, "I wonder when I can start potty training Alexis?" Now, just four months later the time has come and I couldn't be happier with the results. At just 20months (which I know it's not unheard of but boy does it make this momma happy) Alexis is 100% potty trained at home!! I would like to hear from others who have gone through this process, any advice or tips on how to begin training outside the home, anyone??

I’m not going to say that having children has been “a piece of cake” for me, but what I CAN say is that it has been the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. I never thought that looking after two kids all day would feel so rewarding at the end of the day-but it does! I am so blessed I get to experience EVERY-THING that happens in my little ones life; every cry, every laugh, every kiss, every silly thing they do, every I love you and oh yes “heal” every scrape, bump and bruise. Being a mom has helped me grow in so many areas and has slowly helped me or more like made me become less selfish, there is no such thing as I’ll change that blow-out later or I’ll feed you later because I have to finish my nails. Yes the raising and discipline is hard but it’s all so worth it when you know how much (with all your faults) your child looks up to you. Praise the Lord for the gift of life!

Every parent I talk to tells me how fast kids grow, some with joy and others with regret at the vanished years. I've taken the advice and try to remember this fact when interacting with my kids, I want to make the most out of these fast passing years and embrace with joy the good and bad that comes with.....I know I'll miss it someday.

I have started a short morning devotional with Alexis and would like to share what we read today from John MacArthur's book Scriptures to Live By. Every page has a convicting truth and I would like to share one with you.

God Wants Us to Know Him
I am the Lord your God...And you shall know no God but Me. Hosea 13:4

Spiritual growth progresses from knowing you are a Christian to knowing the Word of God to knowing God Himself. The way to know God is to spend your life focusing on His Glory, thus learning to understand the fullness of His person. That focus becomes a magnet drawing you upward through levels of maturity.

Jesus Christ is the One who introduces men and women to God. Those whom He ushers into the Father's presence all have a loathing of their sin, a desire to be forgiven, and a longing to know God. Those attitudes are the work of God in drawing us to Christ. A response to the gospel message thus begins with a change in attitude toward sin and God.

The more you know God, the more you'll understand who He wants you to be, so the primary pursuit of any believer is to know God (Philippians 3:10). That can be achieved only when we study God's character as it is revealed in Scripture.

He's 3wks. old and has already made his first trip to the Zoo, Botanical Garden and The Aquarium. We had a great time visiting these three places with our friends today. Aaron did great and Alexis had tons of fun watching the animals and playing with her little bud Lathan. Going out with kids is as hard as one makes it, as long as their needs are being met there's no reason why one should be home bound...that's what I say!

5 Tips to Heal a Diaper Rash

I'm sure every mom wants a good/fast remedy that'll help heal a diaper rash that's making their child (along w/ them) miserable. Here are 5 easy tips I've learned from other moms that have worked great with Alexis:

1. Change dirty diapers ASAP (WAY worth the expense)
2. Apply Desitin & baby powder or corn starch if your afraid your child's lungs will somehow be affected (creates a thick paste that coats and protects the buttocks :)
3. Avoid using wipes w/ scented perfumes and alcohol (use damp napkins instead)
4. Let him/her air dry before you put on the diaper (WARNING! you might have to clean up a few spills)
5. Last but not least, a warm bath with baking soda. My friend Brandie gave me this tip (recommended by her pediatrician) and it has worked wonders for Lex. The baking soda speeds up the healing process without hurting the affected area. Throw some toys in the bath tub or sink and let your child soak for a while, Alexis doesn't seem to mind this one bit.

He's just chilling in momma's tummy, with less and less room to move :)

I had a midwife appointment this morning and she was concerned he was laying transverse in the uterus. He would still have some time to turn but she sent me for one last ultrasound to confirm his weight and position. Well? Little Chunker is 51/2 lbs. and positioned head down!! I was VERY relieved to know he's head down and ready to come out, the last thing I want is a C-section. Don't get me wrong C-sections are great when needed and have saved MANY lives but the recovery time is usually longer and the infection rate is a lot higher. Little Lex will need her momma and I feel like a C-section would be really hard on my body while caring for two.

Days like these I thank God for His mercy and wonder why he's so good to us despite how bad we are to Him. I know that labor is coming and I have absolutely NO IDEA what's going to happen but I do know one thing...God is in control and His will WILL be done regardless. Whether I end up with a C-section or a natural birth my hope is that I will glorify my Father and accept what he has chosen for my life. I rest assured He knows best.
